After-School Sports

The East Bay Waldorf School is a member of the North Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation, and offers seasonal games and competitions with other schools. Sports include soccer, boys and girls basketball, baseball, girls volleyball, and track and field.

Drama Club

The Drama Club arose this year out of student inspiration and tailors its activites to student interests and talent. This year's project will be a student written play incorporating elements from romance, comedy and musical theatre. The drama club employs vocal and scene work as well as improvisation to develop students' theatrical capacities. Future projects will probably include a full length musical and an evening of one act plays.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club is open to all high school students who would like to join. Two teachers act as advisors, facilitators, and liaison with the school's faculty. So far the club has had discussions on how to have a better impact on the school environment. Last spring, the club organized a local community Earth Day celebration where the entire high school student body went to the El Sobrante public library to help clean, weed, and mulch around San Pablo Creek and the grounds surrounding the library. The club has provided funds for members to attend some Green Fair events in the area. Current projects that the club is planning this year are, for example, planting trees in the East Bay region, and making recommendations and helping to implement the greening of the school.

Yearbook

The all-school Yearbook Club serves as an opportunity for each class in grades 6-12, to work on their own class pages as well as create the "An Average Day in the Lower School, etc." pages for the lower, middle, and high school. A few class representatives meet during lunch in the high school art room to assemble each page. Designated class photographers are asked to take pictures of certain grades or activities such as the school's festivals and fairs. The yearbook committee is open to any and all students, though the group is kept to a reasonable working size. The yearbook is a great opportunity for classes to work together in spirit and creativity to create beautiful pages that represent not only themselves, but the school as a whole.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations is a nationwide program where students participate in a United Nations simulation by taking up the role of delegates from various countries. As delegates they research world issues and explore the intricacies of international diplomacy. The students spend the first half of the year researching current United Nations topics and then spend three days in a simulated United Nations conference. During the conference students find themselves within committees debating in a formal environment, writing resolutions to present solutions to fit the global agenda of the United Nations and engaging in international diplomacy. The Model United Nations experience is intended to be a reflection of the current world situation where students find practical ways to resolve conflicts.

Student Government

Students participate in the life and policy development of the school through participation in class meetings and high school forum. Students have developed proposals that have been forwarded for action to the high school faculty and to the administration of the school. Students discuss issues of concern and bring their concerns to one of these forums for broader discussion and action. A formal structure for student government is to be developed.

Student Initiatives

Student initiatives and the formation of student clubs are encouraged. Proposals are to be made to the Student Activities Coordinator, who will submit them to the high school faculty and/or to the College of Teachers when necessary.
