The East Bay Waldorf School is located on 11 beautiful acres in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. Our site combines the best of two worlds: an idyllic natural setting adjacent to regional parks and wild lands, and within fifteen minutes of the major cultural and urban centers of the San Francisco Bay.

Our school was founded in 1980 and offers a complete K-8 Waldorf education, as well as thriving Early Childhood and Parent Education programs. Our current enrollment is 135 students. We have a highly supportive and involved parent community. Through strong collegial collaboration, grounded in a solid commitment to anthroposophy, the faculty works out of a consensus model. We also offer a full benefits package with additional compensation for experience.

1. First Grade Teacher - Autumn 2013

The East Bay Waldorf School is seeking a warm, creative and artistic teacher to guide our rising Class One on their journey through the grades. We are looking for someone who has completed Waldorf Teacher Training, ideally has previous Waldorf teaching experience, a grounding in anthroposophy and a Bachelor's Degree or higher. The Class One teacher must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to plan and organize instruction, and the capacity to work with students at many ages and stages of development. An aptitude for strong colleagueship and the development of warm relationships with parents is also highly valued.

East Bay Waldorf School is located on its own beautiful 11-acre property abutting the East Bay hills just 15 miles north of Berkeley, CA. We are graced with a "country" setting amidst the culturally rich SF Bay Area environment. EBWS is an AWSNA member-school, and is jointly accredited by WASC and AWSNA. Currently our campus contains preschool through 8th grade, serves 160 students, and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2010. 4. Business Manager (Finance)

Position Overview: The Business Manager will work on our administrative team and be responsible for the administrative and operational aspects of this early childhood through 8th grade Waldorf School including the management and execution of legal, financial, administrative and operational programs and procedures for the school. The Business Manager works with and reports to the school’s Leadership Council and Board Treasurer.  The nature of this working environment requires an appreciation of the principles behind a Waldorf curriculum and an orientation toward service and collaboration to nurture and support a healthy and vital Waldorf school community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous familiarity with private school business environment, including budgeting, accounting, tuition and financial aid, employee benefits, insurances and personnel policies and procedures.

  • Strong understanding and experience of Waldorf school philosophy, including administrative and educational principles, techniques and methods.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

  • Exceptional skills in resource management, and management of processes and personnel.

  • Master’s degree in education, administration, or business preferred.  Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Experience working in the administration of a Waldorf school.


Essential Qualities and Attributes

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment to set, meet and, indeed, exceed goals..

  • Work in alignment with Waldorf Education and its underlying principles

  • Ability to produce, analyze and verify financial reports and statements from QuickBooks and knowledge of QuickBooks software and principles. 

  • Ability to analyze enrollment reports.

  • Clear track record and experience in creating a budget, setting financial targets and achieving or exceeding goals.

  • Discerning with sensitive and confidential matters.

  • Creative problem solver and implementer of agreed upon solutions

  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software – Microsoft Office suites

  • Experience with systems development and database management.


Position Responsibilities

  • Maintains accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll registers to produce timely and accurate payments, billings and financial reports.

  • Prepares the annual budget with the Leadership Council, College of Teachers and Board of Trustees.

  • Prepare and present financial reports to leadership bodies of the school

  • Responsible for all tax matters.

  • Serves a primary liaison for communications to the parent community regarding financial matters.

  • Oversee and manage all IT aspects of the school

  • Analyze and develop IT systems including admissions, development and alumni data and integrate with accounting system 

In conjunction with the Leadership Council:

  • Supervises the execution of all office and business functions of the school (budget, planning, accounts, systems). Oversees all administrative operations.

  • Manages and oversees the work of the office staff.


Must be able to work regular hours of 8:00-5:00 and occasional evenings and weekends.

5. Business Manager (HR and Administration)

Position Overview: The Business Manager will work on our administrative team and be responsible for the administrative and operational aspects of this early childhood through 8th grade Waldorf School including the management and execution of legal, financial, administrative and operational programs and procedures for the school. This positions primary function will be human resources and general administration and work in close collaboration with our financial manager. The Business Manager works with and reports to the school’s Leadership Council and Board Treasurer.  The nature of this working environment requires an appreciation of the principles behind a Waldorf curriculum and an orientation toward service and collaboration to nurture and support a healthy and vital Waldorf school community.

  • Serves a primary liaison for communications to the parent community regarding  legal and business functions.

  • Ensures the creation and management of contractual documents such as letters of hire, enrollment and financial aid contracts.

  • Oversees human resource compliance, records and benefits.

In conjunction with the Leadership Council:

  • Supervises the execution of all office and business functions of the school (budget, planning, accounts, systems). Oversees all administrative operations.

  • Manages and oversees the work of the office staff.

  • General Oversight of the campus and property, including maintenance/custodial staffing, and repairs.

 

Must be able to work regular hours of 8:00-5:00 and occasional evenings and weekends.
