About Our School

History

In 1980, an enlarged group prepared and opened a kindergarten in the Julia Morgan Center in Berkeley. A class was added each year toward the full complement of eight grades. The school moved to Emeryville in 1984 and remained there for 12 years. The first eighth grade was completed in 1991. When the Emeryville site was reclaimed by the school district, East Bay Waldorf School bought the 10.9-acre Hillview School site in El Sobrante in June of 1996. Read more

Mission

The uniqueness of the Waldorf approach lies in how the students are taught. Whether the subject is arithmetic, history, or physics, the class or subject teacher brings life to knowledge through vivid descriptions and characterizations which heighten students' curiosity and engage their feelings. The teacher leads the students into painting, music, writing, rhythm, drama, experiments, poetry, drawing or movement to stimulate their imagination and strengthen their memory. Read more

Faculty & Staff

The East Bay Waldorf School has a staff of dedicated and talented teachers who are committed to the underlying principles of Waldorf education. Nearly all of the school's teachers are Waldorf-trained or are currently enrolled in Waldorf training. Read more

Location

Our spacious 11-acre campus is adjacent to Wildcat Canyon Regional Park in the East Bay hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. The school is located five miles north of El Cerrito, nine miles west of Orinda, eighteen miles east of San Rafael, and twenty miles from San Francisco. School bus routes transport students from central East Bay and Contra Costa locations and BART stations. Read more
